Dan and David - as I said in my original post, the jury is still out, I like having the storage, I like having a place for tools because I do ride and not just polish but I also like to show her - maybe I'll just have to slip 'em on and off as appropriate... just don't know - thanks for all the comments and compliments... great bunch on this forum.

I put the tool boxes on both sides of my deluxe. The left side was a bit agrivating cause I bolted the box to the bracket first like the directions stated but then could not get my tork socket in place to bolt the bracket to the frame and I had to take out the 2 top box to braket screws to move the box to tighten the braket to the frame ( I had put silicone calk behind the box bolts for seal).

I would like to have some one make me a new bracket for the right side to move it back a couple of inches.

I was suprised how little storage room is acually inside the box. cause it looks so wide on the out side. You really need the inside pouch to hold your stuff or your stuff will fall out when you open the box because the bottem side is so shallow.

If installing make sure they will clear saddle bags if you are running them. I have bb reprodutions bags and the box clears them just fine.

If I was going to install just one tool box I would go with the left side.

Just remember, you put them on for a reason. Like many here, you think long and hard before adding stuff to your bike, don't be swayed by a few either way, go with your gut.

Buzz,

I'm a visual kind of guy (that's why I like RetroHarley's avatar so much), and I think that I likey! My vote is to keep them on that bad boy.

Your bike looks better without them.

I use through-over vintage (1960) HD leather saddle bags when I need storage for extended trips.

The bike maybe looks a little bit "sleeker" without them, but they look good on the bike. If you need a little space for "everyday" then I would definitely keep them!

RETRO, thanks for the tips. With your wrenching tips and photo-posting skills you make life easy!

So, when you guys say "basic tools" what do you have in mind?
