Default oil leaking into Air Cleaner

So I bought a used SE A/C kit from a guy on here that seems to be the old style with the hose which is supposed to reduce blowby. Well, after riding for about 50 miles I have noticed oil seeping through the bottom of the filter. Suggestions?

here is an image of what I bought: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...s/11709219.jpg

First check the oil level when the motor is hot, it should be in the middle of the top and the bottom marks.

It's not uncommon for oil to get into the air filter on a harley. It comes through the breathers that exit into the filter. If the oil level is at the high side it's more likely to happen or if you are at high revs for a long period of time you'll see it. Not much to worry about and it's the reason 128auto recommended checking the level.

right...the problem is that it seeps through the filter and onto the engine...havent seen this before on any of my buddies bikes with the newer SE backplate...take a look at the kit that I got in my opening post.

The filter has a lot of grease on it....probably needs a good cleaning....will take some brushing to get it off though...maybe a soak in some degreaser too

I had the same issue fought it for quite a while.

Cleaning the filter will make it appear better for a short time (it needs to be reoiled with K&N filter oil)
Lowering the oil in your oil bag will help alot and may eliminate it.
What I did was install a bluegrass oil vent kit from kuryakin and ran the hoses to a catch tank no more oil on the leg or the engine.

Yes they do it is more a function of the breather valves in your rocker covers passing excess oil mist that is not drawn back into the intake it will build up and drip eventualy.

I'm surprised that I have never read anything about this happening to others on this forum. Here is the photo of the kit that I bought....couldnt I just run my hose to a tank like you did instead of running the hose back into the filter housing?
