Default New handlebars and risers?

I need to get my grips closer to me, and moving my stock handlebars back is only pulling them down it seems to me. Dealer has recommended going to the 12-1/2" bars (I think stock is 10") and then pulling them back to get the grips closer to me by about a couple of inches.

Has anyone done this, or can offer any advice?

How 'bout moving you closer to the bars with a differnet seat?
Check out Flanders Website they got a pretty big selection of all sorts of different bars.

Dealer tells me that old style risers won't work as the bolt pattern on the clamp is now different. Seems logical to put a taller bar and then rotate it back to get the bars to be the same height as stock, but now closer.

I really didn't want to change the seat to move me forward as I like sitting back against the passenger pillion for a small backrest. If I got a different seat, wouldn't I have to get a new passenger seat too?

Tom from http://harleygoodies.com/ here. Changing bars can be quite expensive in case you are not aware. fI would try risers first, but that is just me. Get some pull back risers and a different seat, or maybe a mean city cycles seat mod. I also dislike the angle of my wrists with stock HD bars. If I was going to put different bars and planned on pulling them back towards me I'd get 14".

Regards,
Tom

A new seat could come in a two piece or single piece seat where you would still be sitting back against the passenger pillion (integrated or not), but that would be further forward than where the stock one is now.

Bars may require you to swap out your throttle, idle & clutch cables along with your front break line. Be mindfull of that when considering changing bars.
