Default First bike opinions?

I have a buddy selling a 2001 HD Softail Duece, has 25k on it and has custom wheels. corbin seat, drag bars, new tires and a couple other things. He was selling for 9500 but seems he wants a bagger here very soon and told him I only have 8k to spend and he is seriously considering it. This would be my first bike and yes im scheduled to take my MSF course at the end of August, the first time I can get in. Do these bike have any issues I should be aware of and how do they ride, easy to ride, hard to learn on, etc? Please help me out as I would greatly appreciate it.

So with the duece being so light it will not ride that good? Im torn between a Dyna or a Softail but looking for a good ride for those longer trips without getting a bagger right now. Im still looking around to get the best deal I can since being my first bike want to make sure I stay with it.

i think you mis interpeted my response.
it is a great bike lighter then the softtail.
it will give you plenty of experience and i know guys who ride them all over the place.
its bigger then a sportste
lighter then a softtail
and handles great.
you can do anything you want with a dyna.

I can ride my softail Night Train for a couple hours before taking a break for my butt and back. Mine is definitely not a long haul bike, those highway bumps are killin me. I'm still playing with the suspension to tweak it, so hopefully that will help.

Good deal, but find out if the cam chain tensioners ahve been done. Another bargaining point for sure. Duece is a good first bike. $8000 maybe $7500 take that sucker and run.

Yeah, what he said. It is a great first bike, as far as ride if it's not lowered you won't feel the bumps so bad
