Tank Emblems
I got a 06 fxst standard, Fire Red Pearl, the painted on harly logo on the tank is about the only thing I don't like. Is there a stick on badge or emblem that will cover the logo yet match the lines, has anyone done this,
Thanks
Thanks
I have wondered this too, psst, this will make you sick, but thats a f*&%in sticker under there! Pull a tape over the portion you want to cover and hit ebay runnin. The majority of them on there show dimensions so you should be ok.
Custom Chrome and V Twin Manufacturing has about all the emblems, However I don't know short of buying a few or going to a swap meet with your bike to try what works best. Your question really can't be answered easily, I would be afraid if someone else said they bought an emblem and did it, they may have smaller writing on their tank or bigger emblems than I would get.

I was hoping someone had already did it, trouble is there are fine lines running into the decal, they sorta swoop into it following the lines of the tank. so I need an emblem that will match (swoopy?) cuz if you followed the line it would have to go on at a slight angle. I think I'm gonna gamble with the red teardrop ones. I post pics when done
thanks guys

I know there is a lot of decals, badges, and so on out there, some are nock offs and a lot of originals allso. Do your home work. I have a 105th and it has a specail badge. My friend had a hell of a time replacing it.He had to send dockuments of the # of the bike and so on.

I just found a blog article that narrows down the emblems from both V-Twin and Custom Chrome:

Went through the same thing with my '06 FLSTCI. Here's what I did:
1. Searched the HD website http://search.harley-davidson.com/?q=nameplate to see what they are currently offering. Harley makes these bendable. On some of these, you will also have to order an adhesive adapter, which is also bendable.
2. Searched on eBay as suggested, and came up with all the same stuff and a few knockoff decals.
3. Priced Harley's paint schemes at http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...bmLocale=en_US. The final pages has a better pic of their emblems. I might eventually go with an all black paint scheme, no pinstripes, and add chrome medallions. Too pricey right now for me though.
4. Visit www.harley-davidson.com and find out what tank emblems they're currently putting on all models. Google Image different year bikes to see different designs.
5. Visit your shop to see them on bikes in person. If you find one you like, measure it. Once I found one online that looked like it might work, I found the shop had one in stock. I held it on the tank of a used '06 (lucked out) to see if the curvature fit, as this kind was cast and not bendable. The curvature fit (I had to go to the auto store and buy more double sided tape to add to one end of the medallion) and it covered the oval part of the decal. As for the part of the decal that these would not cover, Harley uses a similar medallion/decal combination on the Ultra Classic, which is what my chosen medallion is meant for. So I ordered one for the other side of the tank too. The oval part of my decal is larger than all the other medallions, so this was my only choice.
The after and before pics are below. It's OK. I think it's a little crooked. Still a tossup. Didn't like the decal, and the medallion looks a little less than artistic. I really liked the decal on the '04's so I'll probably end up switching the tank out since the pinstripes are the same color and design according to my shop.
It's a lot of work. Good luck!
