Unhappy Turn signal flashes without being activated

I have a 2005 FLSTCI recently the left turn signal has started activating without me touching the switch. It does it regularly when I switch on the ignition and also does it when I am riding. Some times it will not cancel. Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this?

I'll take a stab...do you have any LED lights and a modulator? If so, the modulator may be fried and it's causing your electrical system to malfunction.

Take the left switch apart and look for a loose or grounded wire associated with the switch.

To the OP - did you ever figure out what was doing this?

My left turn signal is doing the same thing all of a sudden. Took the switch housing apart, as well as an accessory switch/housing that is next to it, and neither one of them appears to be wet or any loose connections. Been poking around as much as I can without diving in deeper (i.e. getting under the tank) trying to find any loose grounds or other funky wiring and not finding anything obvious.

Do these turn signal switches ever just go bad?

Mine (left) flashes as soon as I turn the ignition switch to start, hitting the left button to cancel has no effect - I have to hit the right turn signal switch to cancel the left then hit the right again to turn the right off. The left will not come on once I've gone through this sequence.

The aforementioned accessory (lights) works fine, as does the headlight high/low beam..brake light works fine as well.

Checked the flashers and all four corners are working just fine in that mode.

No new accessories have been added recently. Had a new exhaust put on and checked the routing of the exhaust but it doesn't appear anything has been affected by the routing of the new pipes.

The only other thing I can think of is the bikini bike wash I had done down in Daytona last week (when this started) and I caught the girl hitting the bike with a straight stream of water at times, I discouraged her once I realized she was alternating straight stream and showering it with water. That was 1.5 weeks ago, though...I'd think anything she wet would be dried out by now?

Again, can these switches go bad or any other thoughts? TIA...!

By modulator, do you mean that black box that turns your rear turn signals into running lights?

I recently added the H-D lighted license plate frame (with leds) and on my second short ride I noticed my right signal was malfunctioning (flashing rapidly and then when off the indicator on my dash stayed on).

I hope I didn't fry mine.

Bump for any input....

I checked under the rear fender this morning and all looks well in there, no rubbing/chafing or anything obvious.

It's happened twice on my '06 FXST, was able to stop them by pressing the button, but sometimes had to do multiple times before it cleared it self up. Seems to have happened when I took the bike out after storing for the winter. Could be mositure related. Like I said, eventually it stopped and was good rest of riding season.

Update, for anyone who searches the topic in the future:

Yesterday I'd checked and cleaned all the grounds I could lay hands on , no joy. I also frogged the left and right bulbs both front and rear, same condition - left blinker would be flashing as soon as I switched on the ignition and hitting the signal switch/button wouldn't cancel it, only hitting the right signal button would cancel the left.

Today I broke down and bought the switch, luckily Tilley HD had one in stock.

Spliced it in and - voila! The blinking stopped when I turned on the ignition. Looks like the switch was bad, after all. $65.00 with tax for that bugger!

On the bright side, it's fixed!
