best way to get rear tire off?
I got cords showing on my rear tire and need to get it off if I take it too the dealer they charge an arm and a leg it was easy on my crotch rocket with a swing arm stand but I don't see any easy way to do it on my nighttrain without being nervous about it falling over. All ideas welcome.

Here`s what I used many years ago, before I bought a table lift.
With the bike on the sidestand, measure how high the frame rail on the right side of the bike is from the ground (on my softail this is about 7-8 inches).
Glue some short boards (12 in long x12 in wide, top board can be narrower) together to this height minus about 1/2 inch (you want to be able to slide it under the bike on the right side). Make two of these.
With the bike on the sidestand, slide one of them under the right side frame rail.
Get on the bike and stand it up level, and slide the other one under the left frame rail.
The bike will be high enough to get the wheel off, and be very stable.

jack it up
use 10mm wrench to remove brake caliper bolts
remove caliper(pull up and then twist towards you)
loosen the axle tensioner nut using a 9/16 and back off bolt
to the left side.....
loosen the axle tensioner nut on left side and back off bolt
remove the pin from the axle
loosen the axle nut with a 15/16 or 1"(cant remember. i just used a big crescent cause i didnt have that big of a wrench)
remove washers and tensioner seat ring.
tap the axle with a rubber mallet till you can grab it on the other side and grab the left side spacer as it falls out
.
hold wheel with leg and left arm, keeping it as close to true as possible.
pull, wiggle and tug the axle and depending on how close to true/level it is, it will pull right out along with the tension ring from the right side(grab the spacer as it falls)
push the wheel foward and up and with your left hand move the belt off the sprocket.
you should now be able to roll the wheel back with out removing the brake bracket.
I think thats all.
PM me if you need anymore help. I've had mine off like 6 times in the past couple days, so i've got it down.

To get the rear wheel of the ground and you don't have a lift, you can build yourself the "$20 Lift" easy and quick to build.

+1, I have used one like that before, it works fine. Just don't get the board under the shocks. If for some reason you decide to use a regular floor jack(I would not) do not jack up on the cross member.
You can get a motorcycle lift(jack) starting at around 40 bucks and up.
