New Harley owner needs help with Deuce!
I just bought my first Harley, a 2007 Deuce. Got it home from a 370 mile jaunt to pick it up and rode it to work today. (First ride except for a short test ride) Long story short, my check engine light is on and I discovered the reason is that the pipes that are on the bike (screaming eagle II's) are not the right pipes for the bike. There are no O2 sensors in the headers. So looking for solutions for the problem. Worse case, I get new headers that allow O2 sensors and buy 2 sensors and wire them in. My hope is there's a solution like a programmer that resets the computer to work without the O2 sensors, gains me better performance, and allows me to keep the pipes intact. Does anyone have suggestions? The seller is willing to work with me within reason and in a short amount of time.
Thanks in advance,
Ed

Ask the original seller what he did with the original O2 sensors and head pipes. If he still has them, he should include them in the sale. In fact, he should have included all original equipment in the sale. If he still has those items, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to reinstall them. If you want an aftermarket exhaust system on your bike, most manufacturers make their head pipes with the sensor bungs. If your seller was an idiot and clipped the O2 sensors off and threw them away, he should be willing to buy you new ones AND a new or used stock exhaust system at very least, if he got rid of that, too.
man, i would have to think if he purposely took the sensors out, he would have done any necessary programming needed to make it run right. check behind your voltage regulator in front of the frame under a small piece of plastic. thats where your connector is for the front cylinders sensor. the plug for the rear sensor is below your oil tank on the exhaust side. see if they're just unplugged, or just cut off after the plug.
on a side note, im not sure where you are, but i got a set of vance and hines big shots for sale with 02 ports of my 07 deuce. just took them off cause i put a rinehart system on. pm me if your interested.

If you get a PCIII with the O2 eliminators. You can put the PCIII in and install the eliminators on the plug ends. That will allow you to get a new intake to step it up to a full Stage 1 setup. Unless he put an upgraded intake on for you (not very smart without some kind of ECM upgrade).
That's about the easiest and fastest way I can think of to keep everything the same while shutting off the light and preventing it from accidentally running too lean (very bad).

Don't mean to get off topic a little, but this is the first Harley I've owned also. It's a fuel injected 2005 Deuce. I'm looking for pipes for mine, but I just went out in the garage after reading this post and I don't see and O2 sensors on the bike. Is the 05 different from the OP's 07 Deuce or am I looking in the wrong spot for the sensors? I see Vance and Hines has their Fuelpak which I assume is some type of fuel controller like I use on my EFI snowmobile. Can the ECM be programmed from the dealer for aftermarket pipes or do I need a controller?
sixhooter, I'm interested in the pipes if they are staggered, I'm about an hour away. Let me know.

Yes your bike is different, pre 07 bikes didn't have the O2 sensors installed in them and are a bit easier to work with for that.
But the O2 sensors do make it easier for the ECM to compensate for small changes in the environment.
Otherwise the older bikes ECM's are just playing in the dark and have no idea if the amount of fuel they are actually putting into the engine is even close to what it really needs

Make it legal. Original owner broke the law (10K EPA fine) Needs to make it right. That fine tuning the oxygen sensors provides does not reduce HP. Actually will probably make the engine last longer. The man you got it off of should pay to fix it or put it back right if he is capable. (Capable part would concern me here if I was you)
