One more thought, Probably not going to be very costly to fix it. My exhaust is a take off from an 08 or so 96CI Night Train off e-bay (what I paid did not even cover shipping) All I did was plug the ports with stainless steel plugs off e-bay since my 04 88CI does not have sensors) Reason I say this just show you how interchangeable exhaust are. They bolted right up. In my opinion not as hot-rod look as the Pythons I took off but better then the Fat Boy exhaust look that original to the older Duece.

You buy something new, you get what you paid for, and extra parts, unless specified usually do not come with the vehicle. Maybe he should have at least mentioned them and offered them, but sounds like he didn't, you didn't ask, sooooooooo, good luck with that one!!!!
There is no need for 02 sensors on a pre 07 softail. Find out if your bike has a dealer download, or a race tuner or anything like that. One of the best things about the earlier bikes is the lack of 02 sensors.
You can check the codes from the check engine light. Here are instructions. Also, if there is a logged code the light will come on at startup for the next 50 starts and turn off after a few seconds. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...odes-dtcs.html
Do you have a high flow air filter? Post a pic of your ride so we can see what you have going. Also, check under the seat for a tuner. Post a pic of that too. There is too much unanswered to give good answers to your questions yet.
