Default Which pipes?

Hi all, looking for some advice on what pipes I should get (if at all)

Many say my exhausts tone is nice, but its not really loud enough for me. So, some questions:

- My Fat Boy has EFI, will I need to get the dealership to do anything if I change the pipes?

- Are my pipes stock? They dont seem to have any baffles, perhaps they were taken out?

- Any opinions on Big Shots long vs Big Radial?

Thanks in advance!

They don't look stock from your sig picture
They could have baffles just with no back pressure
You shouldn't need the dealer for anything
V&H are loud, at least my short shots are

It all really depends on what is on your bike now and what has already been done to it. I can't tell from that tiny pic that is your avatar. We need to know if you avhe a tuner, dealer download, stock air filter, etc...

Thanks.

I went to the dealership today and they said my pipes were definitely not stock and that I already had the large air filter.

They reckoned that my pipes were going blue because the engine was running lean and the pipes were getting really hot. They suspected no tune had been done after the pipes were installed.

They quoted $799.99 for V&H, plus $399 for a big cone filter, some other incidentals and around 8 hrs labor! They said it was a 4hr min charge for tuning.

It would put new V&H pipes at around $2K!

Jeez, bought some more pointless chrome bits instead and a nice Screamin Eagle leather to keep me warm

Would you guys recommend I get a tune up even if I dont go for new pipes?

If your pipes are turning blue I would recommend you get a tune unless your wanting to redo the motor. LOL

Pull your spark plugs and see what they look like. Tan or white? If they are more brownish to tan then you can probably get by, but white means you may need to get some tuning performed on your efi system...too lean! Plugs will tell the tale..Did the tech pull them before recommending the upgrades? Its the quickest way to read whats going on inside. Almost all pipes will blue at some point, the manufacturers just got smart and started covering them with full coverage heat shields.

If you are even the least bit handy, I'd recommend you install the V&H Big Shots yourself. We got vendors on here who will sell them to you for a fraction of the price that the dealer will. Doc V-Twin will beat anyone's price on V&H. Installation is not that hard. Then I'd recommend you find out what kind of Fuel Management is already installed on the bike and get it tuned to match your pipes and AC. Like others have said, riding a bike that's too lean could cause you some major engine problems down the road and the blued pipes are a sign that something's not right. Good luck!
