Default Bottom of top muffler blue at 6k

I have looked around and didn't see the info I was looking for.

The bottom of my top muffler is bluing from the discharge of the lower muffler. Here is an older thread with the exact same issue on a Dyna:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...r-muffler.html

My bike has about 6k miles on it. I have owned it for the last 1300. As far as I know everything is stock.

I did not notice this previously, so I am not sure if it was always there, or if it was a recent development.

Is this common? Or does it indicate that my bike is out of tune? I have thought that it gets pretty hot, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

Thanks,

sure you'll probably get a lot of different views on this, mine is just coming from my own experiences on mine.

I got my bike with 2k miles on it, put the shortshots on and within probably 2k more miles i checked them and seen a lot of blue, so it may be normal? hope it helps!

Your pipes will get blue, but your heat shield shouldn't.

My pipes are a little blue, but the heat shields are fine. What I was surprised about was the muffler.

My muffler is coloring exactly where mywideglide noted in his post in 08.

Not sure what model year your bike is? If it's a 2010 or newer they have 'cats' in each muffler. These will create hot spots for sure. A good set of slip on's will cure this.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I left out some info when I posted.

It is an 08 Heritage. I was thinking of putting on some slip-ons at some point anyway.

I guess this is a good argument for pipes that end in the same spot instead of the staggered. I always thought they looked better that way anyway.

Thanks again.
