Isn't this normal? I have read some posts where people say their pipes are glowing red, and I know that isNOT normal, but just turning blue after some use seems normal to me. Not my heat sheilds or anything, just the actual head pipe. I have seen blue pipes on most any bike I have paid attention to, or been able to see behind the heat shields. I have two buddies with 05's and they both have blue head pipes under the heat shields. My heat shields don't get hot enough to even melt my boot or anything.
That's why I'll never consider a chromed pipe without a full heat shield.
Basanni, Martin Bros., Matt Hotch, all of those pipes are beautiful until you start the bike.
There are a ton of pipes I like better than V&H, but the "blue" thing doesn't get it at all with me...
That's what I thought, I have just read some posts that people thought their bikes were too hot b/c the pipes blued. Didn't want to give any misinformation. Thanks
Some bluing is normal. Excessive bluing is not. Bluing is a characteristic of a lean bike. Run it too lean for too long and you're gonna have trouble. Valves, pistons....etc. Of couse, if you're needing a reason to do that stroker motor..... As the saying goes "Lean is mean"
I haven't seen one single walled chrome pipe that hasn't turned blue.
Lean running will add to the blues, but sit at a long red light on a 95 degree day....
Your pipes are turning blue.
