Default Anyone Ever Used Heat Wrap on Pipes to Control Heat?

I see these new bikes in all the mags that have ceramic pipes, or pipes that are fully wrpped in some kind of bandage (asbestos) or someting. Anyway would that stuff work to keep the heat off our legs from the pipes.I've never had an issue with the right side, but that left side pipe bakes my inner thigh / legeven with the "No more Fried Thighs" attached.

Its been used for years on bikes without heat shields it works but can damage the pipe by holding the heat in. You can get it at autozone. A proper tuned bike doesn't need it.

We used to put those on our "home made" straight pipes on our sporties because otherwise you get a straight nastiness on the pipes when they blue and corrode etc. Plus it made the bike look more badass (probably the real reason) and anti-Ness with all the shine and colors and prettiness. Wrap the tape, put hose clamps on either end and roll. We were into the stripped down tough look and not the red/green swirly paint schemes and chrome everything.

If you put it on a modern bagger it might look a bit strange is what I'm trying to say.

I had it on my softail, I used it to see how black pipe would look (I used black tape) It actually made the whole seat hot I did not like it. There is a company out there called Cool thighs that makes a leather tarp if you will for heat, check it out.... LINK

I had the pipes on my fatboy covered in heat banbage for 6 months and the pipe cracked on both sides. The pipe was welded and put back to usewithout the wrap with no further problems. Pipes have since been replaced.

I've had mine done for a year. The Thunderheader was first treated with the Jet Hot coating. The combination noticeably reduced the heat, and I have no signs of pipe damage.

I have a set of pipes away being jet hot coated inside and out, how did they stand up to the heat.

Inside and out is the only way to go. The coating is holding up great, with no signs of discoloring, flaking or rust.

As far as using the Header Wrap on pipes, I haven't used it. I've never heard a lot of positive reviews on it either--most agree it helps to reduce the heat but at the expense of deteriorating the pipes which will eventually need replacement.
I have had a lot of sucess with having pipes Ceramic Coated. Never did a Harley, only dirt-bikes and ATVs. It helped quite a lot with radiated heat and was well worth the money (very reasonably priced btw). I had them coat the interior and exterior of the pipes and it was a durable finish.
Lots of companies around that do this type of work. Just have to remove your pipes and send them in.
I have seen some of the "Chromex" finishes that actually turn out similar to a polished aluminum look.
I've used these guys in the past and have lots of luck with a quick turnaround:

As mentioned, a good tune to richen things up should probably be first on the list though (then see if you need to take the next step).

Best of Luck.
