One of the manufacturer sites (dont remember which one) says it will eventually lead to failure of the metal in the pipes due to the heat, without the wrap, the pipes dissipate the heat. Ever seen the metal drip shields in a grill.
Do your pipes have heat shields? If you wrap them, take the chrome heat shields off first. That way if you unwrap them, you can install the like new chrome heat shields and no one will be the wiser. Although the wrap has insulating properties, I doubt the additional heat retained would do any permanent damage to your head pipes. I'm no metallurgist or an engineer, but it doesn't make sense that the marginal additional heat would be that great. Just my $0.02 .... By the way, I really like the look of wrapped pipes! Good luck.
