I need to lower my Deluxe a bit to get my feet flat on the ground. I have read the archives and I'm confused on the way to go. I really don't want to lower it at all because of clearance, but I think I need to. The dealer says I should only lower the front. I am thinking about the Progressive Airtail shocks. They are a bit pricey, but if that's the way to go, I just might. Do the Airtails lower the back and the front or just the back? I read where some of you had lowered just the front and the ride was bad so I was wondering what did the ride feel like if you just lowered the back. Does the bike handle well? I am open to all suggestions and I hope some of you can help me out.

 

I have the legends air ride but its to expensive for most about $2500 if you have someone install it. The Harley lowering kit does not work on the deluxe i think its already in there after all its one of the lowest bikes made 24.5 inches from the ground to seat. You can get the arlen ness kit and go about an inch to an inch and a half it will change the ride but not horribly the other lowering kit i hear about often is burnout cycle's kit you can do a search to find it. even with the air ride when lowered you feel the ride more, only difference i can put it back with a push of a button good luck

 

$2500 to get your feet to the ground? For that kind of money, I'd just duct tape some 2x4 blocks to my feet.

 

its now about the feet hiting the ground its about the ride you wont find a better ride any where.

 

I just had someone at the dealership tell me yesterday you can still lower the rear shocks on the Deluxe 1/2" and he said I'd be surprised at what a difference that will make. Also, shaving the stock seat will bring your legs closer together when you stand up which in turn will put your feet more firmly on the ground.

I'm going to pick out my Deluxe tomorrow! I may end up doing both. Have them lower the rear before I leave and then next week take my seat to an upholstery shop that specializes in shaving/reshaping bike seats.

 

I'd narrow the seat first. It already drags all the time on turns at the stock height. Especially when you are turning and heading uphill from a flat road.
I believe there are even seats that will lower you some.

 

I don't have a deluxe, but a friend does, and man it is already so low. I would say that shaving the seat is the way to go. Do you want it to handle at all? I lke to call it having manners, and I'd imagine that it already has no manners at that height. Have BadX shave your seat. I think it is $40 plus shipping and I heave heard nothing but good things about his work. Think about those floorboards dragging in the corners. I have a Fatboy that drags extremely easily.

I ground off the old stock exhaust clamps, and have ground the heck out of my new pipes already!

 

ARGHHH! Oh man! LOL, a day late! It might work out for me though (additional lowering). See below.

I went yesterday to buy my Deluxe. Got the blue and white one! My husband, who owns a Road King, road my Sporty to the dealership because I put the stock seat back on and couldn't ride it. This definitely worked to my advantage because he decided I definitely needed a better bike. He rode the Deluxe back home and LOVES it! He's already told friends he has two bikes now! I'm like, "Hey, that's (the Deluxe) MY bike!"

The extra parts I bought were the windshield, engine guard and saddle bags AND these bolts (around $90) that go on the shocks which allow you to lower it up to one more inch. We're taking the bike back today to have those put on this morning.

BTW, we brought the other parts home and installed them last night (we saved like $600 in labor by doing that!). Plus, my husband is so in love with MY Deluxe that he couldn't wait to ride it. Didn't want to leave it at the dealership over night.

Anyway, I read in the User's Manual that the seat height is 24.5 inches "Laden" with a side note saying that by laden they mean a person weighing 180 pounds. Unladened it's 25.9 inches. I'm only 5'3" and weigh about 120 so when I sit on the bike I don't think it goes down to 24.5 inches. So maybe these bolts will help bring me to the 24.5 inches.

I'll let y'all know how that works out. I've had a few people, including the dealership, tell me that I can't take turns like I did on my Sporty (which I love doing) or I will drag the ground.

 

You'll be missing out on that last little bit of lean angle fun in the twisties.. You'll get the hang of just how hot you can take some curves, but be cautious at first. The trade-out for the sport-riding is all that Deluxe coolness.. Not too bad. Enjoy!
