Default Tach problem

My FXSTD has a factory mini tach. The problem is that when I turn the ignition switch to off, the tach needle jumps and stays at two hundred rpm. When the switch is turned on, the tach goes back to zero. I feel this is drawing current when the bike is not used and is draining the battery over time. Has anyone encountered this problem and know of a fix?

Its normal. The tach is not drawing current, actually when the key turns on the current is what forces the tach to go to zero. You should see the AutoMeter tachs, some of them jump to 4500 RPM when the key is off. Don't worry about it. It's a non-issue....

I have an '02 FXSTB since new with many mods and my question is that my 2 5/8 autometer tach goes crazy sometimes with the needle bouncing all over the place at intermittingly. It's been on for at least 8 years with no problems. I had a voltage regulator problem causing an irractic charging rate. I had the regulator replaced, but the tach still does that crazy needle bouncing around most of the time. Is it possible that the regulator problem caused damage to the tach? Any helpful input from anyone out there would be great.
