Default Progressive Fork Lowering Kit or drop in lowering kit ?

Progressive has 2 kits listed for my 2010 flstn.

10-1561 which is listed as a fork lowering kit

and

10-2003 which is listed as a Fork lowering kit (drop in)

my question is... which should I use?.. What is the advantage of using the regular kit as opposed to the drop in one?.

sorry if this was answered in another thread, but I cant seem to find the answer

thanks in advance

I wondered the same thing, decided to go with the full kit since I was going to have my lowers off for powder anyway. That's the main difference - the level of disassembly to install. The full kit requires full fork disassembly, whereas the drop in does just that (though it is a bit more than just drop in). I would imagine there is also a ride difference, with the full kit riding slightly better, but without a side by side it's probably not noticeable. If I ever get my *** out to the garage and start the install, I'll let you know how it goes!

No such thing as drop in's for a flstn even tho they call it that. I used the drop in kit on my last two bikes and it requires removeal of the fork legs, or at least taking the top of the fork leg out of the triple tree because the opening on the tube cap is not big enough to just drop in the new lowering kit springs. I changed out my stock fork lowers for chrome ones when I installed my progressive drop ins. The ride is good, you might want to change out your fork oil with a heavy duty oil to prevent your forks from bottoming out. I used HD screaming eagle heavy duty but I hear amzoil makes one called shock therapy that's suppose to be better. Hope this helps.

Ya know,
It cant hurt to call and get the answer straight from the manufacturer. They are usually glad to answer your questions and give you a professional answer. That way if there is a problem with the product you can usually get a hassle free replacement if you mention who you talked to and that they told you to order the particular part that is in question. If you made the mistake by ordering the wrong part or took someone elses advice they might not honor a refund or replacement.

Oh yea I almost always do at the time of ordering.. but with my experience, i find it is nice to also get the opinions of other users, because sometimes u learn things about the products that the manufacter might not mention... possibly to a failure in design of one of thier products or whatever reason. Ita nice to have as much info from all perspectives going into a buy... also keep in mind that sometimes when ur dealing with a large company that makea hundreds of products for hundreds of different makes and models, it might not be easy to get someone on the phone that can clearly answer a specific question. Good pointer tho, and def always ask for the persons name
