Default FatBoy Lo rebuild and ???

If you recall, I hit a deer 2 weeks before Christmas and I'll be starting to rebuild my bike shortly. Since I'm going to have it stripped down anyway I'm thinking of going ahead and doing a few more things..

I'm thinking of replacing my wheels with fat spoke wheels.. These are the ones I'm really interested in:

However I also wanted to look at Ride Wright wheels. When I looked on their site though, it looks like they don't make any 17" wheels? Am I missing something?

I'm also considering biting the bullet and doing a big bore kit.. probably the 107" FuelMoto kit.. My question is, how many specialty tools are needed to do this swap? I'm guessing piston ring compressor (not really a specialty tool I guess, but mine is ancient) and a bearing removal tool for the inner cam bearings. Anything else?

Well it seems someone has been erasing my posts in this section. Email me at Drew@drvtwin.com and I will get you info you need.

The fact is that RW does not make wheels in 17" as very few Harley's have wheels that come in a 17" size. There are more now, but there used to not be any pre 08 or so. Many people put 18" rims instead or even larger as few people like to stay with stock size rims when they get new wheels.

there are varying companies that make what you need and I am in touch with them all and actually know them personally.

If you want to discuss this further email me as I am having issues with my posts being deleted. Or better yet just call me.

Best regards and if anyone has questions there are plenty of ways to get in touch with me. If I have to retype all my posts again and again and again I will. Not an issue as I want people to have the proper information.

Call me, email me read my posts before they get deleted. LOL.

Drew

The 17" wheel "craze" started in '06 with the 200mm tire. It spread a little but not too far. I hate it when I think about looking for new wheels and even Harley doesn't make most of the wheels in stock size.

I am not a fan of taking away the Lo's signature wheels, but those flat spokes with lil chromes may just keep it looking like a Lo. I like it!

Now throw some flat black cholos on it and turn it into a So Cal Lo:P

Cheers.

I don't have any experience with those wheels, but I think they will look awesome on your Lo. I plan to keep my Lo close to stock, but I am the exception. You will be on your way to an amazing looking dark/fat custom softail with those wheels!

rrambo, I posted this same topic (spokes on a Fat Boy) in the Calling all Fat Boy Owners thread but got no response. I figured people thought I was crazy.

I would love the look of spokes on a Fat Boy. My buddy said it would just make the bike a Heritage. My take is, no it won't. I would have the spokes be the same size as the stock Fat Boy wheel. No bigger, no smaller.

I priced out the wheels from the same company you have pictured and they quoted me about $1k each. OUCH! I don't belive they have the size we want listed on the site, but I made a formal quote request and they will in fact make the wheels.

I imagine there is a pretty good demand for stock Fat Boy Lo wheels, so we should be able to get a fair price for them. That would offset the custom wheel price.

I will be interested to watch your progress on your project. Again, glad you're ok from the little mishap with the deer. Be safe man.

Yeah you can get the fat spokes. I'm after (I can't speak for rrambo) a stock look. I like the HDW wheels because they look more like a stock HD wheel... only wider.

Rambo here is a pic of a low with ride wrights on it. I cant remember who's bike this is but they are on here. They have a 21 front and 18 rear so it should give you a good idea of what your would look like.
