I have an 03 Deuce SE. The starter made a huge grinding crunching clanking noise. It will engage but it grinds. I know it needs a starter, but should i be concerned that more things have been ruined. I.E flywheel clutch etc. It will be sitting in my garage now and i will not attempt to even try to start it. What should i look for as damage wise. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you Glenn

 

I got a buddy with an 07 Deuce and his did that for about a year. It made me cringe every time I heard it and I thought he was a nut for letting it go that long. He said his Indy said it would be fine? He just had that same Indy put a new starter in it and didn't say anything about other parts being damaged. I'll ask him next time I talk to him.

 

Take a close look at the ring gear and jack shaft gear for missing/broken teeth.
