Default Fuel Pak vs Race Tuner

So i have had a Fuel Pak on my bike since I changed the stock pipes to V&H Short Shots. I feel as though the bike should respond better. I been told that the Race Tuner would improve the respond and fuel intake. Looking to go and change into a Race Tuner. Any feedback on your experience and the differences would be appreciated.

I assume u mean the Sert. Screamin eagle race tuner. I use one on my bike. The good its fully tuneable for any mod u do. And does not take up space on the bike. Its basically an interface module. I am happy with mine. But its $160 everytime I want it tuned after a major mod.

The bad basically only be tuned by HD... u can buy the cables and software and do it, but u have to have the knowlegde and probably easier on the dyno, although have 1 dealer here says they can do it better by just riding it and making adjustments. Only bc they lack the dyno.

But also great results with power commander products. More tuneable than the fuel pak. Most guys around here use them.

The big difference between the Fuelpak and the Race Tuner is that the Race Tuner is fully programmable which means that you can do a lot of fine tuning to the bike on a Dyno. With the Fuelpak you can only enter pre programmed codes and there are no possibilities to make the fine tuning. And as there are no to engines that are completely alike the fine tuning possibility is a must have if you want your bike to be 100 %.

I had a Fuelpak on my Street Bob and changed it for a Race Tuner and had it Dyno'ed. It was like night and day.

There are other makes of good programmable tuners out there that will do the same job as the Race Tuner as the Powercommander. I have the Powercommander on my Deluxe and it does the job just fine.

Have the Fuelpack on my Fatboy. As you know, it's a simple plug and play for stage 1's. Recently tuned a bike with the SE Pro Race Tuner. It's a very complicated tuning devise and the full benefits are not achieved without a dyno.

For DIY tuning, I would recommend Thundermax or Powervision.

I've had the SERT on one bike, then the SEST on the SG, for the Deluxe I went with the ThunderMax so I don't have to have the dang thing on the dyno with every change. Its getting installed hopefully this weekend if I can find time to do it, so I have no review for you yet.

Just giving my $.02 to give you another option to look into.

Thank you for the great feedback. I guess I will go with the race tuner and deal with the dyno and all that comes with it so thqt my bike can perform better.

My Dyno guy at the dealer, yes an HD dealer, will work with any tune-able device. Of course he "recommended" the SE tuner, but he also likes the Power Commander products and other tuners that give him access to both fuel and ignition timing setting. I may be wrong but I have read the the V&H Fuel pack just give access to fuel settings.

Will suggest if ur going to switch tuners. Upgrade your intake to something a bit more free flowing to get the best gains. Because someday u will want more.... cams porting big bore etc.

Ok i went with the SE Race Tuner and i definitely noticed the difference and of course its due to the bike being dyno too. I also like the fact that I can alwaysd down load any new programs that are available. Once again thank you all for the feedback.
