Default 04 fatboy upgrade ???????s

2004 fatboy fuel injected stage one air and vance and hines side shots with power commander III. I'm thinking of getting into the cams and maybe the heads. Im thinking milling heads .050 with the Andrews 37 cams with getting a "D" shape on the ported heads. Thinking I should get kinda close to 10:1 compression or at least in the upper 9's. Any input or advice on this setup? I'm guessing power commander would have a fuel map for this setup also?? Anything maybe I should look at additionally with that setup to make it flow right???

You can buy heads, pistons, cams etc in a package from screamin' eagle. That's what I did to go from stage1 to stage 4

.05 seems like an awful lot, but I'm no expert. 9.8 compression or a little more is good for the 37 cams. When approaching 10-1 or more, compression releases should be considered. I just did a 98" kit from Hillside Cycles with stock heads, and was told I would be around 9.8. I've been running the 37s for a year and this kit really woke them up. I think at .05, you'll have to be very mindful of valve/piston interference as well as being in the market for adjustable pushrods and intake mods. Hopefully some with more knowledge will chime in. Give Scott at Hillside a call, he is a great guy, won't try to sell you anything you don't want.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "gear tensioner." If you're going with gear drive cams you won't have any tensioners. You'll need to get the runout of the crankshaft checked to make sure the gear drive will work properly. Runout should be at .003 or preferably less. You'll also need to get a conversion kit to allow you to run gears on your current cam plate. For head work, I suggest you call Scott at Hillside Cycles, he's a straight shooter. As he suggested to me, 1.910 intake and 1.610 exhaust with port blending will wake them up.

sorry thats what I meant, gear drive cams. lol the kit comes with the conversion kit on ebay. the cams, bearings, gears, conversion kit, entire package. How do you check the runout, can that be done myself??

You'll need some relatively specialized equipment. If you go to Youtube and search for Harley crank shaft runout, you'll probably find a video. I think there is one floating around one of the current cam threads in here as well. Easier for you to watch one than for me to explain it. The likelihood your runout is within spec is 50/50, so do this research before you buy your kit. I would hate to see you end up with a bunch of stuff you can't use. I considered gear drive myself and have the stuff to check it with, but didn't think it was worth the trouble. But that's just me. Plenty of guys in here will give you the opposite opinion. Unfortunately, it isn't a matter of just buying the kit and slapping them in.
