Default Checking fluid levels on '03 FXSTI

My husband is doing the first service since I got my new-to-me 2003 Softail Standard (FXSTI)

The Clymer manual says to check fluids while the bike is upright. He is questioning this and wants to make sure he checks it in the proper way to get an accurate reading.

Is this the correct way or can he just check it all on the jiffy stand? He THOUGHT that 2000 and up would be checked on the jiffty stand.

Also the dealer said they replaced the dip stick (it swivels rather than straight) before I bought it so it's probably a new dip stick and not sure if this makes any difference?

Any input greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Stand the bike upright to check fluids with the stock dipsticks. I'm not familiar with the floppy dipstick, but I would ask the dealer or check the part # online to verify.

Not sure about the 03, but on my 05 the engine oil gets checked on the side stand, the tranny and primary are checked with the bike upright.
