Need Help with gas tank
Hey guys I need help with removing my gas tank on my 2013 Fatboy Lo? what are the first few steps to removing? I would like some help with the wiring and everything when it come to removing the tank. All help would be very appreciative. thanks
It would be easier to help you if you can tell us what are you struggling with. Some of the steps are obvious and if you want those detailed out for you you should not attempt the removal.
There are two main attachments The bolt in the front that runs through the tabs and the one at the rear of the tank under the seat. Aside from these you need to remove your console which is plugged into the wire harness and disconnect your fuel line which is different between carb and EFI. If you are EFI then you need to depressurize and then disconnect the quick connect fitting. you also need to disconnect your fuel gauge from the harness on the LH side up under the tank.
You should drain as much gas as you can with a squeeze bulb siphon to make the tank lighter. and then if you have stock rubber fuel line on your front crossover you can crimp each side with needle nose vise grips and cut it in the middle. Its easier to do it like this then pulling it off one side which will spill a bunch of gas no matter how much you drain. Some guys pull the crossover off put their thumb over the hose side and quickly attach a drain tube on the metal nipple and drain it into a bucket while they thread a bolt into the hose end. If you have a buddy to help its easier.
You can put masking tape on your tank in the front to keep from dinging it up during removal when you are messing with the crossover.
If I forgot anything guys will chime in

Everything Motown said. Great instructions. If you already have a service manual, that will also get you through it. If not, invest in one. It's worth every penny. You will need it sooner or later. If you can turn a wrench, the manual is like a bible to some riders. It saves a ton of cash when doing work on your bike yourself instead of paying a mechanic...Just my $.02 cents...Good Luck...

Yup. /thread.
I have a question about the crimps that secure the crossover line. Once you cut the crossover and remove these crimps what do you replace them with? Where do you get the metal rings and what do you use to crimp them?
mine are just hose clamps, if they're in good shape i'll reuse them, else they're only a few pennies at any hardware store.

Mine are not. They look like plain metal rings that were slightly larger than the hose. The extra material was then pinched together to secure the ends. Guess I could use hose clamps, but the small metal rings look cleaner.
If you want to use factory crimps you can buy those but you need the crimp tool to. Most people either use stainless generic hose clamps or switch to the stainless braided crossover.
The factory crimps can be cut off with wire cutters, grab the rectangular crimp portion and twist sideways and it will break
