Default Need more performance from my carb'd 02 fatboy

I've got a standard 2002 Fatboy with the factory carburetor. I'd like it to be more responsive and am considering a carburetor and a cam upgrade. What set up do you recommend?? Please give specifics on model numbers and parts etc.

Also, is there any other new technology or ideas that I should consider or take advantage of??

Thank you for your time, I'd greatly appreciate any help.

RS.

Do you have an INDY that you trust? The best thing to do is to go talk to someone, let them know what you want and what you are trying to accomplish. A 2into1 pipe, bigger air intake, cam, Dyno. There are MANY options out there for this set up, price range and so on. It also depends on what your willing to spend too.

minkuni 42 will work well with the stock motor, and will work even better with the cams at the later date. throttle response and gas mileage will go up as well. very good setup

Mikuni 42, cams and a 2 into 1 is the way to go for that. You can do it in stages but all at once is less work and more fun. A high flow air filter is needed too if you are still running the stock air cleaner.

I have to echo previous responses. The Mikuni 42 provides instant throttle response when mated with a proper Stage 1 Air intake. It will give you a real, seat in the pants, performance gain. Harley sells this carb as a kit in the Scream'in Eagle line which includes an adapter allowing you to use your stock throttle cables and any air intake designed to mate to the CV Carb. The Mikuni is very reliable and easy to tune. Best bang for the buck.

A couple years ago I modified my 03 Night Train which is basically identical to your bike. I'll use my experience with it to make recommendations for you.

-Mikuni 42
-Arlen Ness Big Sucker Intake
-Harley SE 203 Cams

A 2/1 exhaust will provide better low and mid range torque but I personally just don't like the look of them. I ran a short 2/2 exhaust system with Big City Thunder Baffles. The bike pulled hard but if I had it to do over again I would have went with Andrews 21 Cams. Note: I had a bit of deceleration pop with the short pipes but increasing the idle jet by 2 sizes eliminated it.

You can upgrade in stages. Start with the Mikuni and proper intake. You will definitely feel a difference.

Throttle response will improve if you eliminate the CV carb. I like S&S E carbs, but I'm sure the Mikuni 42 will work well also.

Cams will give you a good bump in torque and horsepower and of course also improve throttle response (provided you choose the correct cam for your riding style). Andrews TW21 or S/E 203 or 204 should get the job done. Check the cam specs to determine the powerband you're looking for.

Default Thank you for your replies

I greatly appreciate the help gents!

Driving style is usually small country roads and some highway. Some of you have mentioned Andrews cams and my mechanic likes Woods cams.

What's the difference in the real world?

Thank you again,

RS
