Does size matter SLIP ON MUFFLERS
I was told that the 3" would not be as loud as 2" - - is this correct?
I was about ready to buy Screaming Eagle slip on at the dealer, when the parts guy told me to get V & H 4" - - I cannot even find four inch on the V & H web.site.
This for a Heritage.
I know that mufflers are a subjective thing. My goal is for a bit more sound.
Thanks

Surprised you didn't get any feedback yet with all the guys on here that have v&h. I'm guessing the tone and volume is based on how wide and the shape of the barrel/muffler and for volume to increase you would have less baffle material. I'm guessing the SE slip ones have more baffling. Someone with more know how will probably give you a more complete answer.

I've had Dyna and now I have Softail with Rush slip-ons. I first bought Rush slip-ons with 2,25" baffles but those were too loud to my ear so I changed to 1,5" baffles. I've had also V&H SE slip-ons with and without quiet baffles, but Rush sound is deeper and not so metallic as V&H.
IMHO I would suggest you to buy Rush slip-ons with 1,5" or 1,75" baffles if you want a nice sound.

Typically, the larger diameter mufflers have a lower and deeper exhaust tone, although not necessarily louder. You might try just drilling a hole or two through the end cap of the baffle inside of your muffler if a tad more sound is your desire.
Have you thought about American Custom exhaust? They cut out the cat and install removable baffles, depending on the sound level you want...

i have the V&H straight shots on my deluxe it came with baffles but i replaced it with the quite one its wrapped with fiber cloth and closed at the end .. it makes the sound deeper and remove the metallic effect , from what i read its only 3-5 dispel lower .. its still loud and i really like the sound ..

are you talking about the OD of the muffler or the size of the baffle.??
a bigger muffler (like a 4") usually gives a deeper tone than straight pipes. But a bigger baffle is louder.. 1 1/2'' to 2'' baffle is normal for stock motors.
I've had my Rush for 7+ yrs and I really like them.. the 1 3/4'' baffle is the most popular for stock motor.

I liked the look of my stock 3in pipes so I removed the factory baffles and made my own out of 2in ID pipe 10in long then swelled the ends to fit inside stock pipe. Cut my own loovers in them and wrapped with some stock matting. They sound really good! I did a little write up about it in the cheap mods thread.
