Default Breakout owners with V&H Shortshots

My first post after joining and lurking for a few weeks, so here it goes. I'm looking at putting staggered black Shortshots on my '14 Breakout and was curious what part number I'll need? I'm aware V&H doesn't make them specifically for the Breakout but after reading some of the other posts about owners modifying the mounting holes to make them fit I think I'd like to give it a try. I did contact V&H about when Shortshots may be available and this was the response I got: "Good Afternoon,We do not have a release date for those pipes to come out for that bike. Any new information will be posted on our website."
Thanks,
Scott

I have heard that the reason the pipes aren't listed for the Breakout is the rear pipe is too close to the oil line. Some have used other pipes and the clearance looks good to me and they said they wouldn't fit. Not sure if that is the case with them or not, good luck.

I keep hearing it has to do with the oil lines but Thurderbike seemed to make it work. I really like these pipes on the BO.

I wanted these pipes until I heard how loud they were. But I still like how they look. They really make Jax's bike good.

I have V&H Big Shots Staggered on my m.y. 2014 BO and they weren't supposed to fit either. No issues with oil lines clearance and while installing them.
I guess you should look for 2012/14 Softail model fitting. I did the same.
Btw, Short Shots are nice but extremely loud and, imho, since BO has a long profile, maybe slightly longer pipes would match better your bike.

Thanks for the responses so far! Nostradamus74 I'm glad to hear fitment shouldn't be an issue. I'm hoping to bolt these up myself since the local H-D dealer wants $275-300 to do it. The savings will go towards a new air cleaner assembly. With one daughter in college and another living at home this is definitely a budget build.

Yeah, they will bolt up. There have been stories on both sides, but another Breakout guy on here just put them on his a few weeks ago I think and they were fine.

I wanted the short shots on my BO really bad so I asked V&H about them. Here's their detailed response. I'm not getting them now.

Chris,
We do not make the Short Shots for the Breakout our only offering is the Big Radius 2-2. The pipes you are seeing on the Breakout are most likely H-D Softail Short Shots adapted to fit the Breakout. Even through the Breakout is technically a Softail it doe have it's own exhaust fitment due to the Large oil tank and wide swing arm. If you do put the Short Shots on a Breakout you will have to space the pipes away from the bike which will out the pipes in a bind and cause them to break over time.

Thank you,

Steve Darrow

That is incorrect, no spacing is required, but you should probably post it more places, because 3 isn't enough for sure.

Not to mention the last post in this thread was almost a year ago.
