Ok everyone, you have all seen the pics I posted of Medusa. I'm looking to go with a new set of pipes for her. Leaning towards the Hooker troublemakers scalloped in black. Any body running these pipes? All pros and cons would be appreciated. I think with the current mods I have done the troublemakers would really finish her off.
i have hooker trouble makers on my bike and i love them,i had a problem early on and hooker replaced them for me,it was a small crack in the heat shield(and i think it was the way i installed them,i kind of forced them on) the second set has been flawless if you decide to get them just make sure you dont use the screamin eagle gaskets, use the ones supplied with the pipes, loosen all the hose clamps and let the pipes settle in where they need to be,then tighten all the clamps up,you will get alot of mixed reviews on them here, probably more bad than good, but like i said i love mine, they sound awesome and they look awesome..and the next choice would probably be short shots but everyone has them especially on nightsters..
I went through 3 sets. All of them leaked, none of them fit correctly. Yes, I installed them correctly. Out of all the aftermarket pipes ive installed on various motorcycles over the years, Hooker have by far been the worst fitting pipes and cheapest manufactured pipe ive ever seen. Weve had people have us install them on a brand new bike and right out of the box therve been problems. Pipes leak at the joint, heatshields cracked, and they dont even use real exhaust clamps at the joint, its a hose clamp. For the money ide look into some Rinehart Crossbacks, V&H Pipes or Samson now makes some awesome looking Sinister black pipes.
Some people have them and have no problems with them after the 2nd or 3rd set but I want my pipe to fit the first time. The amount of people pleased with the pipe definately dosent out weigh the amount of people displeased with Hookers product.
Save yourself the agrivation...Trust me. Not to mention on a Nighster they hang to low and youll high side the bike taking a right hand corner...

i dont have any leaks on mine now after the second set, i wish vance & hines would make the big radius pipes for the sportster im sure they would stand behind their product more than hooker and would probably be better quality ,they make them for the dyna and softails but we get screwed, i dont know if you had the earlier versions of the troublemakers but the new models are much shorter than them and would be less likely to scrape on turns
This whole thing started because my V&H medallion came off, and they don't sell replacements, or replacement heat shields. Maybe I'll take a cue from Slackster and go ahead and drill my shields out. I been kickin that around for a while. Cheap Mod and it saves me 5 beans for something else that I gotta have later down the road.
Thanks for your input guys, but anytime you're saying my second or third set were OK, doesn't work for me
Had an indy put a set on my cousins softail, leaked since then, i took them off three times, to get good clamps from jp (kinda lke harley factory clamps) still leaked, took them off again had to hi heat silicone them with yet another set of clamps and now they only leak a LITTLE, steer clear of these guys, the only plus is they look nice and sound sweet, of course they aren't gonna sound good if they are popping on decel all the time. spend your loot on decent pipes if you want easy and one shot install

Call V&H directly, they sold me just one heat shield for the front cylinder, no sweat.
Ok called V&H they will sell me a set of shields, but at the price they are asking, for a buck more I could buy a new set. Gonna stay away from the hookers, but did find something else that caught my eye. Basanni street sweepers. Anybody got any info or insight on these? My other option was to go with the Samson sinisters' thought on either of these products would be appreciated. Got to do my homework before I make the plunge. One note I did not find anything wrong with the V&H short shots, except my own clumsiness, just looking to get away from the crowd with something different.
