Default Heritage Cat mufflers?

I am looking at a used pair of stock OEM take off mufflers from a 2008 Heritage to put on my 2011 Heritage which has "cats" built into the stock mufflers. I currently have aftermarket slipons on the 2011 and I want something quieter, but I do not want to put my stock cat mufflers back on. Bottom line: do the 2008 Heritage stock mufflers have "cats" in them like my 2011 or just baffles? It appears they will bolt up

I don't know about the CATS but, since putting on the V&H slipon's, my bike sounds better and along with the Stage 1 A/C, it runs alot better. Why would you want to make your bike run and perform worse?

P.S. you need to have an updated map downloaded to your ECU and you'll be very happy with the increase in performance of your motor.

I don't think so unless they are Calafornia muff..

I think 10's was the first yr for cats in the muff's for the rest of our 49 states pipes..

Almost positive the 08's didn't have the cats...

I hear what your saying. I had 1.75" baffles in and they needed to be wrapped. I installed 2" baffles and have a marked improvement on low and midrange power. I do run a tuner and Big Sucker Stage 1 A/F. I don't want to loose alot by going back to a stock muffler. I'm tired of the noise and want to quiet things down. I may go the route of a BCT or Smartpatz baffle. I dont feel it is good to stick a piggy back baffle into a muffler.

If you are looking to mod a stock set of mufflers, even if they have cats in them, it can be done with the right tools. I got a set of 2011 FLSTC stock mufflers with cats and removed cat material and baffles, then installed 2" exhaust pipe for liner and used set of 13" can open style baffles inside the exhaust pipe from ebay.

Sound is much better and reduced the heat on my right leg tremendously. No, it is probably not as good as a good set of slip-on, but I can adjust as needed and I still have the "factory" look. I am running hi-flow air filter & tuner as well. I could not believe just how restrictive the stock baffles are. Don't see how anything can get through them.

If this is something you might be interested in doing let me know and I will post steps I used to remove cats and baffles. Not an easy or quick process, but it can be done if you take your time. I got a set of 2011 mufflers for free and kept my original mufflers just in case the need might arise to have to reinstall them.

Steve, I wont need a step by step, but how did you remove the "cat" material? Was it removed from the inlet end? I would assume you can only get "most" of it out.
