Default Oil extractors for performing service on a softail

Are Oil extractor worth using on a Harley? They look like they keep the mess down to a minimal, and storage the old oil until you get the chance to discard it. Unfortunately I always make a mess changing the trans oil and always have a problem getting a oil pan under the motorcycle to catch the oil.

Has anyone used one of these? Are they worth it?

No. Drain the oil the way you are supposed to and clean the metal filings off the drain plug magnet.

We have gotten by for decades without completely draining the oil... the amount is minimal. Clean the shavings...refill... go about your business.

But hey if it makes you feel better to do it, it aint gonna hurt none.
