Default 2009 Heritage

I just purchased a 2009 Heritage with 3100 miles on it. It came with Vance and Hines true duels and a few extras! Really loving the new ride. I have rode metric bikes all my life so this is a new move for me.

I have so many questions and a lot of reading to do regarding the care and maintenance

of my new bike.

I purchased a Mustang tank pouch for my bike. I went to install it yesterday and removed the seat very easily. When I got to my speedo I ran into a snag. The acorn nut that hold the speedo on just spins? It acts like the bolt underneath the speedo is turning and not locking where it should be. I do I fix this issue???

Help.....

Scott

Congrats on the new ride. I have an '09' Heritage that I bought new. Almost 40,000 miles now and no issues. I've heard of the tank bolt problem. I've had mine off several times. Try pulling up on that nut and turning at the same time.

Clean bike and she Ain't even close to being broke in, Mine didn't even feel like she loosened up really good till 25k..

You'll find (IMO) the Heritage is the best overall bike HD makes unless you do a LOT of road trips.
Not to big to Putt around town and county all day long and with just an extra bag on the rear they are a great for that week long Road trip.
I take at least one extended trip a yr and the wife and I ride everyday we can for a couple hrs.
Again IMO-- the Heritage is the Touring bike of Softails...

IF.. your wife (s/o) rides a lot, Look into the Bigger pillion seat, its a LOT better (Thicker and wider) than the stock rear seat. Also adding the Quick detach sissy bar and Bigger touring Sissy bar pad along with FloorBoards will greatly Add to the comfort and ride for your Passenger.

While I (as most do) think the Front seat is The best seat I've had on any of my bikes and wouldn't ever think of replacing it with a different kind.
In all the bikes (11) of them and I even had 2 customs seats made, if the seat on the Heritage ever needs replaced,, it'd be with another stock seat..

I also added some Hi-Way pegs 2 yrs ago.. They REALLY make a diff on Long rides, I Love them.. They have made the Long rides a Lot-LOT - more comfortable, wished I'd added them at first.

Here are the ones I got
http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...-peg-mount-kit

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...-07-5050003--1

These mods will make your bike a lot more comfy for you and your passenger..

Engine Mods may come later for you if you want more TQ.. But those mods may or maynot be wanted by you..
I added Cams at 15K and they will make a bigger difference than you think if you ever add them.. but they have to be the ones that match your riding style.. Anyway you'll know in a yr or so if you want more TQ or not....

Have fun, enjoy her and Safe riding to you....

...Big Tom..

I've really enjoyed mine and I have to agree with the above comments. I've replaced my tank bib and didn't have any problem with the acorn nut. I would carefully take a razor knife and slip it under the nut and apply pressure upward at the same time trying to turn the nut off. The parts breakdown show that the acorn nut attaches to a carriage bolt so apparently it has dropped out of it's holding bracket.

The 2 things I think a rider should get right off the bat is the service manual and the IPB (Illustrated parts breakdown)

I hate my tank pouch and have been wanting to replace it since the day I got the Heritage. Which Mustang pouch did you get?

Will all respect... I disagree. Different strokes for different folks. I'd say your close though. Just got a Deluxe earlier this season. Absolutely hands down the best all around bike that HD makes. The Heritage is to a Crown Victoria as the Deluxe is to a Lincoln Town Car. Better ride. Sit in the bike better. Handles better. Better lean angle. Just an all around awesome ride. Add some Springer bags to the Deluxe and you've got a tourer that you can ride all day. The Deluxe is everything the Heritage is, just a bit more. Just MHO.

OP, you've got one clean looking ride there. Nice bike.

Bones.

Only 3k miles, nice! I replaced the tank bib on my 09 without any problems with a new one by Capt. Itch.
I love my Heritage and have had no trouble with it in 30k miles. Just tires and rear brake shoes.

Have fun!!
