A friend just reminded me that we still see an awful lot of people riding with novelty helmets here in NC, at least in the northeast part here. Then it occurred to me that I haven't seen any "chatter" on the subject here online in a long time. Think they've given up or it was much ado about nothing to start with? Any thoughts? I know I haven't been checked but mine is clearly legal.
I was wondering the same thing since I am the next state over.
A few months back I saw there was a lot of talk about this 1" minimum thickness on liner or something or other. Haven't heard a word since. It was some issue about the new law being to vague and that people were getting ticketed incorrectly IIRC.
I also would like to know, I wanna make a run up to Banner Elk/Boone, NC again before it gets to cold.
Haven't heard of any major crackdown in N.C. but I do know people who have been cited for non-DOT lids there. I guess Clint Eastwood said it best,"Do you feel lucky?" Me I wear a legal lid in the states that require them. I don't need the hassle.

Well there are many that believe the new law, which was supposed to be a clarification of the requirements in the old law, is still too vague and unenforceable. But I haven't heard much about anyone even trying to enforce it anyway. Hence, my post here. I went to an event at a dealer Friday night in NC and another in Virginia Saturday and I'm still seeing novelty helmets everywhere even with plenty of LEO's around those places for security. Apparently nothing is happening with enough regularity to trigger any change of habits. I'm used to my legal helmet now anyway so it's no big deal. Was just curious.
For anyone taking a chance in NC and wearing a novelty carry a DOT/FMVSS 218 type helmet with 1 inch foam along in your bag. If they ticket you they won't let you ride your bike away without one I hear.
