brake light and horn issues on custom 48
Hi Everyone
I bought a used custom 2011 forty eight 1 month ago from my local harley dealership and i just notice that my brake light does not work when bike is runing. It only works when the relocated ignition is in accessory position.I also find out an un connected black wire behind the batery that says horn ??? on it.
I call the salesman and he told me that the 30days warranty is out on my bike even if he knows that 2 week after i bought it we had like 2 feet of snow.
Any guess where that wire should be connected to ? and how to solve my problem?

If the above link works for you, then you should be able to access the wiring diagrams for your bike.
If the horn & brake light work when the ignition switch is in the ACC position, then the wiring & fuse to those items should be good.
Check the Ignition switch to see if the ACC fuse is getting power when the Ignition switch is in the ON position. The ACC fuse should get power when the Ignition switch is in the ACC and the ON positions. I think the turn signals should also work in the ACC position. Do your turn signals work in the ON position?
My guess is that the you have a defective ignition switch or a broken/disconnected wire from the Ignition switch relocation.
I can't tell about the wire in your picture, but the wiring diagram should help.
Post back what you find. Good luck.

Yeah all the lights (turn signals headlight) are working when the bike runs exept for the tail light and brake light.
Tail light and brake light are working with both hand and foot controls when key is on acc position.
The un connected black wire is about 5 inch long and was hiden behind the battery tray and labelled: Horn?? but my horn works fine...
We did a new owner check up outside the dealership but can't remember when we check the lights if the bike was running or not

Well I'm at a loss. In the ACC position power is feed to both the right hand control(brake light switch, right turn signal switch) and the left hand control (horn switch, left turn signal switch). Power also goes to the speedometer and the rear brake light switch. If all of these switches are working in the ACC position, then I would think that the wiring for these items s good. When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, power should continue to be fed to the accessory circuit plus power now goes to LIGHTS, IGNITION and Start Relay.
So I can't explain why the horn & brake light would not work but the speedo & turn signals work with the ignition switch in the ON position. If none of them worked I would say it was the ignition switch but when half of the items work I just don't have a clue.
Open up the wiring diagrams, and get out your Volt/Ohm meter, and start checking.
