Default External crankcase breather smokes

For those who has an external crankcase breather, I have installed a K&N breather to stop my air cleaner blow-by oil leak, I did a mod to reroute the breather hose. It doesn't leak oil anymore but I notice that smoke came out from my breather at idle, of course I didn't see it while I am riding, whenever I stop at the light and the engine gets hot, I smell oil, oil temp is normal. Has anyone seen this before? You probably don't if the breather is hidden inside the air cleaner, external breather only. I just worry about excessive crankcase pressure. Thanks Alex

Riche, thanks for your quick reply. The smoke came out from the breather isn't a lot but I can smell and see it. It is located above the rear axle, behind the starter area. The breather oil leak is minor, almost none but smoke. Would you mind telling me what AC you have?

Im using an S&S A-C but I didnt use there breather set up.I bought my breather kit from J&P cycles. It runs the oil blowby hose fowards.I ran the hose past the oil filter housing and down the left side of the bike.I put my little breather thingy under the frame so if oil leaks out it will hopfully go in the street.Maybe smoke comes out but im not seeing it.You could run yours underneath the bike that might solve the problem by drawing the vapors out better.Heres some pics I have.

RICHE, nice tear drop S&S. I took the filter out today, found sludge in there. I removed it tonight, rode 60 miles, guess what? I still see a bit of smoke, I have run the breather hose all the way to the bottom. When the engine idles, I hold the rubber hose, the smoke shoots out about an inch. It's weird, isn't it? Did you run the breather above the AC housing? Later Alex

Maybe smoke is supposed to come out and I just dont see it.I never held the hose to check for smoke its allways been underneath the bike out of view. All depending on how hard I ride the bike the breather piece has to be cleaned before to much oil builds up and slobbers out and sprays the bottom of the bike.Im gunna look at it when its running and check for smoke.I know that all engines make blow-by gases, before cars had P-C-V valves there was a tube that ran underneath the engine to expell the gases and a little smoke would come out.The more they smoked the more the rings were worn.Ill let you know if mine smokes and how much.
