Default 87 evo stator change

Would there be any online manuals for this engine anywhere? My son purchased this bike with what he says is a stator problem. Purchased all the parts that he thought he my need but thinks that I should know the process in changing one of these. I say he didn't want to spend money on one of the important items such as a manual. Since the weather is looking to be bad this weekend, I thought I might start to dismantle...may need the book to do the assembly!

Thanks in advance for any help.

There are no legitimate digital manuals anywhere, as H-D doesn't produce them. Each of us has also signed up as HDF members to not promote any illegal on-line ones that may be advertised, as they break copywrite laws!

Your son should buy himself a genuine HDF factory service manual for his bike and stop being a skinflint! It will cost him a lot less than paying someone to install the stator, so he will get his money back several times over, just on that one job. Your local dealer can supply one. Or you could buy him one for his next birthday or Xmas present.......

What he is saying its against forum rules to post illegal on line manuals. You should buy one like every one else does. Sorry.
Now if you can find the procedure on a youtube video that's OK.

The stator is behind the clutch basket on his 1987. He must pull the primary cover, the clutch hub and front motor sprocket and chain assembly. Often the magnets attached to the basket have become dislodged and destroyed the stator. He may have to purchase an upgraded clutch hub with sealed magnets.

You can find the H-D FSM on Ebay. This one is only $25. Even a "skinflint" can afford that.

I realize and I was advised that a manual is in the mail. Trying to take advantage of bad weather and do something constructive. My first question is that the derby cover isn't removable on this bike. The clutch cable screws directly into the primary cover and with the inspection cover removed to adjust the clutch, how does one remove the cable to proceed? Is this done once the larger cover is removed from the inside?

Take the clutch adjust screw cover (bowtie) off. Unscrew the adjusting screw nuts all the way. Loosen up the chain tensioner under the primary cover. The cover should pull off with the cable/ball and ramp assembly attached. I'm pretty sure that's the basic procedure.
