Is tank vent hose necessary?

When the tank is brimmed on many of the old Ducati Supersports; in hot weather, the fuel expands and pressurises the fuel lines
This is because the breather valve sometimes doesn't release at it's required lower pressure for various reasons (dirt, age, p*ss poor manufacture etc)
The pressure overcomes the float needle jets and allows overflowing from the carbs - but when brimmed, it can set-up a siphonic action and dump a full tank on the ground.
Also when on a rear paddock stand, the angle of the tank and breather outlet tips forward slightly, so a brimmed tank will eventually start leaking past the breather valve in the outward direction and dump quite a puddle on the floor until the fuel level has dropped.
Two of the reasons why I would always have overflow and breather hoses.

Wow...everyone step away from the keyboard!
If you put something up for everyone to see on here you have to be prepared to hear negative as well as positive comments, I'm the first to praise someone if I like what they have done but I'm not going to say something looks good when I don't think it does, it's not a personal comment just an observation and personal opinion.
