Default Preparing bike for frame welding?

I'm going to get a welder to weld near the oil tank. Should I empty the tank?, Or remove it? Or does it really matter if it is full? It's about an inch and a half from the tank. The battery is out, and the gas tank is now off.

If he can get the weld done without removing it, don't worry. But hang welders tarp all around where he will weld, or you may get splatter where you don't want it.

I'd remove it.

If you can, place a piece of thin metal between the tank and where you are going to weld to help shield the tank

Ask the welder.
If he knows his ****,he will tell you what to do or he will do it himself.

You don't state what kind of scooter you're welding on .... if you have electronics of any kind I would highly suggest taking great care not to get a "spike" while welding. You could pemanently damage the ECM and any other electronic components. Be careful.

Cover more than what you think could ever get weld spatter. Wet towels work good.

There will be no splatter if your welder will use a Tig. Explain to him your concerns about an electrical spike harming your scoot, and let him decide what needs to be done. I would highly recommend that your fuel tank be removed, nothing like a hot torch near gas fumes.
