I own a 2016 sportster Iron 883, just put on V&H short shots. big picture is to get air cleaner, tuner and 1200 upgrade. I know I'm going to get a lot of opinions on this but, what way should I go first? 1200 then air cleaner and tuner or air cleaner and tuner then 1200? if I had the money id do it all at once but these things take time! thanks for the input in advance!

Buy everything slow and put it away in the closet until you are ready to use it. That being said. I have the stock 1200 parts from my build and they only have 10k miles on them. I will sell them very cheap if you or anyone else that reads this is interested. They are just taking up space in my closet. I have the cylinder barrels. pistons with rings (should probably have the rings checked just in case to make sure they are properly gapped), pushrods, lifters (but i recommend you buy new lifters as harley brand lifters are ****), and cams. Your 883 heads will work but you should get them massaged (ported).

Sam has a good idea.
Yet, since you already installed the exhaust.....
Install an air cleaner and get an adjustable tuner at the same time.
Then tune the 883.
Enjoy for X number of months.

Then get the 1200 kit.
Then retune with the same tuner.

Guess you could go that way.
Good luck.

I’m not very patient when it comes to wanting things for my bike. If it was me I would do air cleaner and tuner and ride it like that until you have enough money for the 1200. Then after you do the 1200 upgrade all you need to worry about is riding it...A LOT!

It is better to come to an agreement what you want in the end rather a bunch of random jumps in the beginning.
Once you accomplish in your mind what you want, then you can start.
Things bolted on will not matter as Horsepower is very hard to attach.
To get the power you seriously have to subscribe to -
Displacement, cam, and head work.
That entails- intake tract, exhaust, and ignition.
To get the most its a blended processes with the symbioses.
Spend some time studying what Buell did.
Dont reinvent the wheel until you have practiced learning what others have done, go from there,

Any aftermarket a/c with K&N filter (or similar quality) will be sufficient for either the 883 or 1200. So this is something you only need to buy once.
Power Vision tuner will tune either motor, so get that.
1200 convert last if funds prohibit doing the whole shebang at once.
