Oil tank cap fix .

Definitely just the bottom . All you're doing is smoothing out that corner , no more . It's just so you can get that last 20 degrees of turn . Take away as little material as possible from the horizontal part of the groove . As I say , just round off that corner .

The pop-up top which screws in wouldn't screw all the way in on my 2005 Sporty unless I used large Channel Locks to force it. Then I had to use them to unscrew it. POOR DESIGN!
However, H-D does sell an aftermarket that is expensive (imagine that!) and it works:

I bought it, it fits and it works perfectly. It was very tight the first few times I used it but after that, I could use my fingers instead of Channel Locks. It is metal and it does not pop-up which is the way it should have been designed in the first place. I do recommend it.
H-D should have offered this in the first place for the 2004 and up models as standard, without the thermometer and then offered the thermometer model as an option.
I can't confirm the accuracy because I haven't checked it by placing it in boiling water but it is consistent in its readings. The lines on the dipstick are hard to see but if you use a white paper towel to check the level, it's no problem at all.

My bike came with this one but personally I would never have bought it. Just to say you have an oil temp gauge there because its useless where it is. If it came with a readout on the handlebars it might make sense but no way will anyone be able to read it in time to do anything about it should it get too hot.
