Which sportster to buy - high mileage and ran, or garaged and low mileage?

Looking for a complete set of mufflers for my 2010 XL883N. I see that I can also use the 11-13 mufflers that have cat in them, meaning they would be a bit quieter.
Is there any way to buy baffles and just reinsert them? Not incredibly handy, but just need to keep cost down... and seriously need this exhaust to be quieter asap!
80399-04 WITH CAT – 11-13
64842-04 NO CAT – 04-10

You should be able to find used ones for $50-$100, although they are starting to get scarce.

I disagree. They can be put back in but you have to know how to weld. I removed mine, drilled the side holes larger, and welded them back in place. You might put posts out a d see if someone has removed theirs and will give them to you. Then just need to be welded back in. It will have to be from the same year group as your bike though, the cat equipped ones will not fit in there.
Make sure yours have been completely removed. If just drilled out, you might be able to put a washer in there with a screw through it as a temporary fix. If they are gone, you will need to replace them.
If you are handy you might be able to make some. Get a piece of exhaust pipe that will fit in the hole in the rear of the muffler. Have a cap welded on one end, and drill about 10-12 rows length wise is 3/16" holes. Making them about 3/8-1/2" between rows. Insert this into the back of the muffler and run a weld bead around it. It will discolor the chrome but will be a lot quieter.

Not really, a 1 3/4" hole saw will cut the factory weld and allow the core baffle to be knocked out whole. If the OP looks at the outlet you can tell if it was removed that way or not. If the center was knocked or drilled out I bet it can be repaired, or at least patched up suitable to him, noise wise.
