I am interested in buying a used V Rod and have been looking at some 2003/4 bikes that have low mileage. I am from Canada so bikes with 600 to 5500 kilometers. The most that I have seen forsale had 14000 kilometers or roughly 9000 miles. Any idea why the mileage is low on all these bikes?
I have noticed the same thing Shawn.. I mean.. it is obvious if they have low miles they are not being ridden... but I see bikes that have all kinds of mods and still only 1300 miles on the clock and I wonder why mod it before you even see if you like it stock then mod and still not ride?
The real question I have is why they are not being ridden. I own a Honda now and would like to purchase a Harley. The VRCS caught my attention because of its styling but I don't want to purchase one if there is a reason or problem with the bike. I am just looking for information that would help me decide on which Harley I should be looking at.

I see the same thing. I find a bunch of V-Rod's 02-06's with very low mileage for sale.
One of the biggest reasons why the pre 07 bikes have low mileage is because of the 3 gallon fuel tank. It gives a 100 mile range before you gotta stop and get fuel. If you ever had a sporty with the peanut tank its the same thing. Its why I am looking at an 07 or newer because I like to ride with groups yet hate being the guy that has to stop at 120 miles for gas and having to plan accordingly.
My 07 had 16,500 when I traded it. I had to put a sundowner on it and the big windshield but I could ride all day no problem. I couldn't imagine having any less than 5 gallons of gas. When you massage the throttle 5 gallons doesn't go very far. My wife wanted to start riding again otherwise i'd still have it. I love my road king but I miss my vrod and wish I could afford 2 bikes.
It doesn't matter what model or brand of bike you want, most "used" bikes are barely used. Some Wannabe buys a bike and either gets scared or never really had the desire to ride. Then there's Shoedude on 1130cc.com with well over 100,000 miles on an 04. I only have 25,000 on an '06. But I have an excuse; my favorite, and only, passenger had leukemia and that slowed us down. Now that she is better...

The 3.7 gallon tank is easily changed to a 5 gallon tank with a couple of options as far as manufactures and really isn't a issue anymore
Just about any scooter that's not set up for long distance riding will not get a lot of miles. I can't imagine and have not seen many V-Rods on a cross country ride. As already stated, the fuel capacity is another limitation. There's a guy here locally that's been trying to sell a 2005 SE V-Rod for the past couple of years with no luck. He bought it new and has taken good care of it with only 16,000 miles on it. On the other hand, I've seen older touring scooters with less miles.
