Starter problems needing. Help please.
Hi my name is Brian I have a 67 Hard tail sportster, ironhead which ever you want to call it i call it a pain in my @!!!%!!. Anyway i recently have had a lot of problems from my starter it would chew up the drive gear that turns the starter drive that throws the jack shaft out to engage the starter drive clutch or Bendix which ever you want to call it. So i finally got fed up with it and ordered the starter housing , the starter gear, the starter shaft, the bendix , the solenoid and the jackshaft arm and the starter all brand new. Plus the bushings that the starter shaft rides in. I installed all of it thinking that it was going to fix my problem and it should have but when i went to start it the starter sounds like its dragging and turns the motor very slowly. Now i took it back apart and had taken the oil lines out from under it and tried it and i had it spinning over good enough to start it. So i put it all back together and tried it again and got the same results as the first time i tried it. Just wondering if the oil lines would have anything to do with it binding up like it is the oil lines are in the same place as it was from the factory. Just dont know what to check next any imput would be appreciated.

Thats just what i was trying nos because the battery says i have like 13v's when i checked it with my meter and then when i crank on it it just bear ly turns over like its binding up so i checked it when i was turning it over and it would drop the voltage down to like 7volts and i know thats not enough to turn it over but then when i turn it off the battery is putting out 12 to 13 5 volts again what would cause such a drop in voltage is it possible that the battery has a bad cell in it and that causes the voltage loss while under a load and then comes back to normal when not in use. Is that possible guess ill go get a new battery and find out thanks i appreciate the input.
Yes.......anything below like 10Volts while trying to start shows a dead battery, have it load tested at a auto parts store, then get a new battery.
It's normal to see a full 13V like that but when it hits the high amperage with a dead cell it gets too low, doesn't have the capacity at that point.
And CHARGE the battery before installing, they don't come full charged and NEED it done before install. DONT use a tender or trickle charger, they are not designed for that!
