pretty clean machine. The last sportster I bought for myself was a brand new 1982 xlx 61(1000cc). Funny how ya return to yer roots. Felt the need to get something to blast around on and tinker with and started the hunt 2 weeks ago. Ended up with this miniature garbage wagon.
first thing was to remove the crap-and polish the legs-the first pictures are when it came home and then today in the sun after it got decrapified. Those mirrors are getting replace tomorrow. White walls are out too. But that’s it for now.
This is what you can do to an unwanted ww. While it was off the bike I sprayed it with some type of rubber black paint and it looked perfect and held up till I needed to replace it. Maybe when I get to polish the rear disc I’ll try to find that type of paint. Front tire is getting replaced, it’s past it’s due date of 6 years. I think it had 14 for the date stamp. Rear tire is good so I’ll wear it out.

I would not mind a XLX 61 in my stable.
It is a no frills, down to "only the essentials" bike IMHO.
Bad thing about returning to ones roots at least in my case, is that it would be a lot of $$$ to buy back some of them.
When I bought them many years ago they were cheap, now they fetch in some cases silly money.
Also I have after consideration refused the opportunity to buy a simmilar model of the bike since I like to keep my memory of them untarnished. What I at the time thought to be top performers, are by todays standard to be considered as mediokre.
Your bike looks good!
Good work on the fork legs!
I will with interest follow the progress on your bike.
