Just curious above which way people are leaning on the newer black trim look.
Myself I’m all about chrome I just can’t get excited about the black.
Don’t get me wrong I do see a black bike or car once in a while that looks good to me but not as often as chrome.
I had a 2011 XL883N from new, I blackened it out over my ownership, I sold it in July 2025. I sell black stainless and silver stainless steel fastener kits for Sportster and Big Twin models on eBay, my sales are 70% black and 30% silver, so black is still popular with H-D owners in 2026.
I think the blacked out bikes have a coolness about them, but deep down, I'm a chrome junky. Although a mostly black bike with chrome here and there really stands out to me too. Something about the contrast really jumps out at me.
Just not into the cliched black on black look. The black hardware gets chalky and is harder to make look good. My previous Sportster was black, but I really appreciate the polished alloy and chrome contrast.......
Just like in my youth I went through the all black phase but have added a lot of shiny bits to my bike of late. I actually use very little chrome and opt for polished stainless or alum whenever possible. It has a different look and is easy to clean up when it oxidizes.
To each his/her own. I'm in the black camp currently, however I do
appreciate the chrome/polished stainless versions as well.
(kind of like firearms, can't have too many) If I had room,
it'd be the chrome/stainless versions...
Here is an example of what I am considering for a "black"
change out in the front....
