Default sporty driveline question

Question for you all, just for curiousity sake, does the sporty have enough grunt to make a custom build worth it? Or is it better to just build the bike from the ground up including a newer larger (110-114) power plant.

And continue to have a basically stock (well sort of) sporty

What are your thoughts?

Depends on what youwant fast to be. The only production Harley that's quicker is the V-Rod.

I would use a 1200, but there aren't many softtail frame out there that I like as much as some of the other frames I am finding that they tell me a sportster driveline wouldn't fit.

Only one that has caught my attention, it's a ridgid, but the company claims they make an "air ride" seat that is better than any softtail. But I have to keep in mind, I have a wife who loves to ride with me....

Check with redneck engineering for a frame. They specialize in custom sporty builds. And can make/modify their frames to fit your request. And yes a 1200 evo can be/is fast, and is cheaper and easier to build a bike around than the big twins IMHO.

If you can think of it, someone has an application for it. People have been building custom bikes for years with similar powerplants to Sporty engines (and smaller). If you go that route, you don't get to brag about having 100+ CI but you also don't have to deal with compression releases and other things that come with larger displacement motors.

In short, yes, a Sporty motor can have enough "grunt" to make a custom build worth it. Whether its "better" or not to use a 100+ CI motor is more subjective than definitive. It's what you want and how much you are willing to spend. Having said that, more money or more displacement doesn't always equate to a better build. Everything is a compromise.
