Default Nightster changes

With the 2008 in all stores now what mods have some of you done.Specifically rear tire and bars. My bike leavesthe factory for the dealership on the 18th I could not get used to the bars so that will have to be changed before i ride away but I would like to put the largest tire on back i can without major mods. I believe a 150 comes on stock anyone know if a 170/180 will fit on without change. My first real harley can not wait got the orange /black combo

Honestly I doubt its possible. The Metz 880 160mm is the largest that fits on the Sportsters and even that being a taller tire not just widercan rub the fender wiring and such on the customs. You could try a search on here for anyone who did it or perhaps over on www.xlforum.net. I like the 150 personally as all the old bobbers and street trackers ran skinny tires.

Good luck with the new bike and let us know if you go wide.

Personally I think the stock rear tire size is awesome. Anything bigger takes away from what the 1200 is suppose to look like, but that is my opinion. That being said, if anyone has any pix of any type of rear tire conversion on a Sportster that would be awesome

I put the Metz ME880 160/80B16 on my '05 1200 Custom. I have not seen any evidence of rubbing on the interior of teh rear fender, but I have heard of a couple who did. Most of them had lowered the rear (as in the stock Nightster?)

The posts I read indicated this was about as big as could be added without mods. Some other 160 sizes are a difficult fit because of variation in how different mfr label their sizes. More info is hre:

Reall like the handling better, does not have the tendency to scoot the rear tire in downshifting and braking like I saw in the stocker.

Funny I run the stock size tire on my '96 which is a 130 and I have never had an issue with scooting the tire unless it was a panic stop. Even then it was minimal.
You must have a whole different riding style than I.

I probably am not winning any style points, but did notice a better grip from the ME880 tire.
