stator
I want to know how well the alternator will run the bike and lights alone? I got an '88 with loose battery cables and when its not working the bike runs with dim lights that brighten when I rev, this happen to you?
The regulator changes theoutput from the stator to roughly 13.5 - 14.7 VDC. @ 1500+ rpm. (Measure at the output of the regulator or from battery + terminal to ground)
My bike died & was a bitch to start. Took it to a stealership & got a new stator & voltage regulator.
11171 O-RING $0.45
11188O-RING INSPECTION $0.70
25463-94AGASKET, CLUTCH COVER $1.50
29967-89C STATOR ASSEMBLY $119.00
3029 SCREW $0.35
34955-89B GASKET, PRIMARY COVER $20.50
37101-84B OIL SEAL $2.95
515 COTTER PIN$0.40
99852-05 FORMULA+LUBRICANT$6.95
I don't know if the total price is costly to you or not. I highlighted the stator itself. These are the parts you will need in order to do the job on a 2002 sportster. Some of the gasket/seal part numbers may be different for 2004 and newer.
I'm a mechanical person, not electrical. I let a stealership figure out why my bike was dying. I was still able to bump start it (roll it down a hill). Oh yes mine is carbureated, no computer brain controlling the fuel.
