Default Exhaust

Ok so I am trying to get some throatier exhaust noise from my 2009 Nighster. I removed the pipe covers, took out the acorn nut and bottom two screws that hold the back Baffle. then unscrewed the clamp holding the baffle to the pipe. I noticed a small 1 1/2 inch outlet/inlet going to a small black pipe. When I manuvered it out of that, a small metallic sort of o-ring fell out. I ran out of time and put it all back together without that piece and when I got it all back together, it just sounded throatier a bit. perhaps, cause exhaust noise is leaking thought that small opening. I was wandering will that cause damage to the engine at all, like from back pressure or anything. I am a total dumbass and know nothing about this bike, but would like to learn to do things myself as the 310 dollar 1000 mile tuneup killed me. should I get that gasket back in there pronto. I mean it sounds totally cool to me now, in fact, if it wont hurt anything, I'd like to take the second pipes one out too. Please help

That was one of your cross over gaskets that fell out, which may cause some annoying rattling later on down the road.

What if you remove the piece of metal blocking the air flow in the middle of both of the exhausts slip ons?

What consequences would that entail?

And what if you kind of slightly blocked the crossover holes / connection?

Just what if?

Huh?

I would say "most likely nothing" to all of your questions except that you may have a loss in some low end power. If you altered your AC, then you'll need to do a remap for the EFI. If it is just the exhaust being altered, you may not need to do the remap. Removing the crossover tube, baffles, and plugging the crossover ports will be like running straight drag pipes, due to little back pressure. Yes, it will be louder but performance "may" suffer.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight on the situation.

BTW what kind of Hellacious pipes you got on your bike?

Is it the one on your sig?

I'm running the Bassani Pro Street exhaust that you see in my sig.
I believe you can now get them for the EFI sporties with the O2 bungs in them already.

Yes, you can get the Bassani Pro street pipes for the efi bikes. You'll love the pipes too. Fantastic sound, and the more you run them, the better they get.
