harley has a small pipe connecting their mufflers. I understand this pipe is for back-pressure among a few other things. What would happen if I cut this connecting pipe and turned the exhaust into true duels. I dout that anything if any would happen. I have to take my pipes off to change out the exhaust gasket and removing this pipe would make things in the fute easier.
I think cutting that would be like "Divideing by Zero" who knows what will happen.Seriously I don't think they would have put it there if it did not do something for performance. They have it down to a science, just the placement of a bolt at a certain place in the pipescreates the exact back pressure for Horsepower and fuel effiency. I would be afraid to cut because if it adversely effects it, the only alternative is replacement.
If it's anything like a H-pipe on car exhaust it helps to equalize the pressure between the cylinders and help in the scavanging of the exhaust gasses. Not sure if it would hurt or help.

True statement Shooter and it does help with performance.
you would loose power just like the other guys said. you would lose some of your scavenging effect and make the engine work harder to push out the exhaust.
It would be the same as drag pipes, drag pipes work real well at w.o.t. but in all other parts of the fuel circut they don't work so well, normally a loss in torque and the're prone to back firing it is not the best setup for all around streetablity. I am sure some will disagree, but that is j.m.o.
