883 to 1200 ENGINE MOD ADVICE
Huge increase in power, like going from a honda to a Z28. As for mpg, I am around 45. I did the basic bore the juggs with new pistons, have not touched the cams or heads...yet. Cost at the dealership was around $1000 including retuning the carb.
I got in the low 60's when my bike was an 883. From what i've read from other 883 owners here on this board, i didn't think it was that unique. I don't have a lot of stop lights in the area that I ride.

Looking for advise here from owners who made the jump from an 883 to 1200 engine mod.
Did it REALLY make a noticeable difference after the mod? I'm seriously considering doing the basic 1200 mod and changing the cams on my 2005 883, which has stage 1 rejet and Straight Shots. I'm looking for more lower end get-up and smoother ride at highway speeds (as most know, an 883 is working hard at 80MPH+). My engine only has 15K miles...wait until it has more miles?
Appreciate feedback from folks who did the mod to their machines. costs?

It's worth it if the top end is in need anyway. I keep hearing the term "investment" here. There is no investment with motorcycles, unless you are buying a musium piece. Is it worth it? Sure if you are going to ride it a long time and enjoy it. It won't add value to the bike though other than maybe making it easier to sell later.
Changing the gearing is easy and many actually prefer the 883 gearing with the 1200 upgrade as the Sportster is not a great highway bike anyway. You may need to rejet the carb. Finally, cams are going to move power up the rpm range so choose carefully if you want to maintain lower end grunt. Keeping the gearing low also helps with this.

Since he hasn't logged in since 2016, I doubt he will read this, and likely made a decision after his 2008 post.
