Think of it this way, you're trusting your life to a patch of rubber about the size of the palm of your hand for both tires, can you afford not to check the pressure before you ride?

Already put the tire gauge in the fork bag for regular checks, I've never even given it a second though until now. Just jump on and go.

They make valve stem caps that change color as your pressure drops....they're typically for 36 PSI, but you can inflate to 40 and they'll stay green until you hit 35. Kind of nice, you just gotta look at em real quick to see where you're at.

I typically run about 5 lbs low in the rear...gives me more "bounce" and I like the feel....only on a full-blown rigid should you ever run under 5 lbs low. Then you'll usually want 10-15 lbs. knocked off to save your kidneys. Other than that...watch your pressure, you don't wanna get squirrely in a turn and **** your day up. It ain't fun. I promise.
